The Visual Stick-ups integrate all Wayne Saccadic Fixator activities into real space. Unlike other instrumentation which only simulates spatial relationships, Stick-ups provide realistic use of available space to enhance visual training. This develops gross to fine ocular-motor skills and eliminates the problem of transference found with other methods. By allowing the user to work in space, Stick-ups also reduce training time. Stick-ups provide the same essential visual training as the Saccadic Fixator alone; however, since training with Stick-ups occurs in space, it is even more effective.
Each Stick-up is a small box with a photo-sensitive light which acts as an extension of one of the lights/switches on the Fixator. The user can indicate he has seen the light in one of several ways:
Stick-ups can be mounted on any surface and spaced up to 8 feet apart in any order. They must be used in groups of 4, 8, or 16 and must be used in conjunction with the Control Center Module?.
Unless the eyes can perceive the totality of objects placed before them, the missing links in sight will become flaws in perception. Since Stick-ups can be placed anywhere within a 20' diameter, the user develops peripheral vision awareness. As the lights flash in random order, dynamic visual acuity can be improved; and because Stick-ups provide immediate visual and auditory feedback, ocular-motor accuracy is increased. Finally, because of the wide area in which Stick-ups can be located, the angle of vision is also enlarged.
Because they allow the user to work in space, Stick-ups are unlike any other aid to vision development. The wide range of possible uses makes Stick-ups a powerful training tool for both remedial and advanced visual skills.
